WTF??! I did NOT choose to have their sh*tty toolbar on the computer.(my sis's old, spare cmputer, luckily...I don't have AVG on mine.) I wasn't even ASKED if I wanted it.
And I sure as hell do NOT WANT their crap trying to redirect me to their site and not being able to load any pages at all. Many others on the AVG forum are cmplaining about this same problem...even people who don't use AVG, like me (my sis only uses the free antivirus program). It's not just on IE, either...google chrome users and firefox users are also having this problem. Of course, AVG's support people are no help. And when an anti-virus progam starts acting like the thing it's supposed to prevent, you can be damn sure I won't be using it on my own computer |

........................................ This thread doesn't make sense. Someone clicked on something, possibly a fake AVG popup. I'm wondering how a competent computer user (without AVG) could even get such a thing.

Sounds like something that could've gotten on there by accepting the default rather than the custom option during the installation.
I'm having some issues getting Avast!'s paid upgrade version to even run on my laptop. I've tried twice following the tech's emailed instructions. I'm gonna try it one more time & if it doesn't work, I'm gonna contest the charge on my credit card & go back to their free version. Wish i'd stuck with it to begin with. PITA. |

I hate Anti Virus programs that are worse than a virus, I have had serious problems with Norton and Mcafee!

I've had AVG for a number of years and I've had no problems with them. There is a "False" AVG Virus program out there that blocks all access to the internet. AVG has nothing to do with them. My advice to you is to STAY AWAY from Porn and Pirate Sites, and only access those sites you know are safe.

The free vesrions of programs like AVG & Avast! are mostly just adware & malware blockers. I think to have more serious overall security while surfing the internet, you probably need the paid upgrade versions. But then, those seem to be a giant PITA just to get installed & running on your computer.

I've had the paid versions of both Norton and Symantec, and can honestly say that even the free version of AVG works better. Just my opinion. |

I use a 'professional version' of McAfee.
Beats the heck out of Norton and CA/Antivirus.
AVG tended to poke its nose where it didn't belong and pissed me off.

I use Avast! free version.
Paid $20 for the upgrade & my computer wouldn't boot up. I had to do a system restore. Tried to contact Avast! customer service, but there was no customer service. Somebody in sales made a half-assed effort to help me via email, but it was just a bunch of "send me this file, now send me that file" back & forth, so I just said screw it. Contacted my credit card company, disputed the charge & got it wiped off my bill. Now I'm back to the free version. No problems. Looking back, I think my problem with the paid version stemmed from a conflict with a pre-installed McAfee download screener type thing. |
