Big smileLove the show - makes one think and dream about a lot of things they want in a home, while, in a way, being a 'contest/reality' show.
The realator, David, is actually a local realator in Southern Ontario, very close by. The designer, Hillary, is a local Toronto designer. They both excell within their chosen profession. They work with families with average to slightly-above-average incomes, so what is seen is indeed achievable and realistic.
Yes, home prices in Canada are higher than the U.S., but so is average income - so, what you see you too can dream, can do
They always work against each other, but absolutely *must* be very dear friends - after five years on the air, the show only has gotten better all the time; these two will almost do anything to win over the homeowners. They are always challenged with budgets - especially, almost always, Hillary, who constantly gets crap from her own people. The woman can work wonders. David is no slouch, either - but has to learn the owners and he gets constant, very straight-faced grief from new clients. Humor is somehow often imbedded within direct, almost insult - but that is actually the real-life side of home renovation, or purchase, when the CUSTOMER is involoved.
However, I HAVE to believe HGTV encourages the homeowners to be overly-critical of the 'contestants', along the way. It is often close to insulting to both Hillary and David along the way, but funny as can be.
Overall, the show is GOOD television, POSITIVE television. And, well...you can grab a few tips along the way, you can borrow from others' dreams.
'Good Stuff', overall.

Love the show - one of my favorites - kind of a cross between a 'contest' and a 'sh*tfest', with some, what I can only believe is, 'humorous/staged abuse'. It is fun, yet educational, to watch. Plus, one can get some really neat ideas from the show.
And both David and Hillary are pretty much 'close-by neighbors' (they both run their *real* businesses within eighty kilometers / fifty miles of us..

Again, it can be SO 'abusive' at times (NOBODY/NOTHING is 'sacred'); I am certain the 'target family' is 'primed' to be even more brutal than they would normally be. In reality, it is very important the 'investing' family is very, very demanding of those chosen to address their 'requirements'. LOTS of money is always involved.
More episode fun here:
