Anybody else notice very quick "blips" of the classic Wendy's "Where's the beef??" that last a second before another commercial comes on? Or am I hallucinating??
Wonder if it's a return of the "subliminal" fad, or if they're just trying something different?

A google search says you're not hallucinating. http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/26/business/media/after-27-years-an-answer-to-the-question-wheres-the-beef.html

Ah, I was about to Google it, thanks!
Something confuses me, though:
Mr. Thomas, who appeared in more than 800 commercials for Wendy’s from 1989 until his death in 2002, is invoked in a new commercial, also set to start running next Monday, in which an actor playing him talks with an actress playing his young daughter, Wendy, the mascot of the company he founded in 1969.
The scene shifts to the actual Wendy Thomas — a k a Melinda Lou Morse, now age 50. Because the new cheeseburgers are “our hottest and juiciest ever,” she says, they are worthy of being named for her father. “These would’ve made Dad say, ‘Here’s the beef!,’ ” she beams. The "actual Wendy Thomas/Melinda Lou Morse"?? I don't get it. What Google don't know, maybe Wikipedia knows, hmmm............ |

Aha:
As a child, Morse was unable to pronounce the L in her name Melinda and so she became known by her nickname Wenda. Then 8-year old Wenda would eventually become the namesake behind the name of her father's restaurant Wendy's Old Fashioned Hamburgers, or just "Wendy's" for short.
WTF did we ever do before the internet?!

Oh for the love of Betty Crocker. You're going to -love- this.
Yes, "Where's the beef?" is back. I just saw a commercial for it. It stars a young, trendy hipster that finds an old shirt with "where's the beef?" on it in some store(I think a thrift store, but the fanciest thrift store I've ever seen. Looked more like a boutique) and goes around wearing it. He gets compliments from total strangers and high-fives all around for wearing that shirt, and finally it cuts to ya'know, Wendy's hamburgers. TAKE IT BACK! I don't want "Where's the beef?" if it comes from a commercial like that! I did, however, used to like that slogan. EDIT : I found a site talking about it. http://chrunners.net/forum/index.php?topic=61510.0 |

Please, stop saying "Awesome" in commercials! Your actors are not awe-inspiring and neither is your product.

It did get driven into the ground. Including a politician (which one?) latching onto it as a slogan. It and "Go ahead - make my day."

It was Mondale, in 84, he tried to use it to make his lackluster campaign look a little more peppy. Didn't help

Yeah, Clara may not like this if she was still alive. I now miss Dave Thomas.... |

Dave Thomas probably wouldn't have liked it, but Clara Peller would now be about 109 with a calcified brain and probably no longer have a clue as to what she liked or not. She would probably be mulmbling "Where's the beef?" while staring aimlessly into space...
