I've been seeing these ads for Dr. Scholl's Custom Fit Orthotic Centers for awhile now & never paid much attention to them except for the part where the podiatrists standing behind the machine poke their heads out & tell him that he "overpronates".

Apparently, this "Orthotics Center" is an interactive computer kiosk-like device that you stand on & it analyzes the bottoms of your feet.

So I was just watching it & noticed that the guy steps up on the base of the thing in his sock feet. ShockedShocked

YECCHH!!!!!

Who the hell wants to step on something in their socks that who-knows-who has been standing on in their stinky sock feet too????

GROSS!!!!!

I hope they keep a can of Lysol next to the damn thing.

I wonder if the machine also tells you if your feet stink.

Either way, this thing just seems like a great big gimmick who's real purpose is to increase sales.

They will soon be known as "Dr. Scholl's Athlete's Foot Fungus Aquisition Centers".

That should be illegal.    Where's the Health Department?    I cannot imagine putting my feet on some machine the unwashed masses who populate almost every store put their nasty ass feet.

The problem is that the gadget would not be able to do it's job at all, if you wore shoes on it.

You think the possible health risks of this thing are bad? Back in the Fifties and earlier, many shoes stores had X-Ray shoe fitting machines! You would try on a pair of shoes, and step onto the machine, and it would fluoroscope your feet and lower legs, showing how the show fit around your toes and such. They were completely unregulated. Who knows how big the x-ray dose was for each person? And how about the poor slob of a shoe salesman working around that fire breathing monster all day for years? Like sticking your feet into a microwave oven, except that x-rays cook you more slowly. I read an article that one shoe store in the US North East somewhere, had one of these things in the store and RUNNING just a few years ago. Nuke It got offered on Ebay. I remember seeing the auction, but I don't remember if it sold or if Ebay pulled it as dangerous.

THEY CERTAINLY DO!!!!
Go to ANY 'PayLess Shoe Store'!
People simply don't know how to use them, anymore. I've seen people believe they found the 'right-foot' version on the floor - and wandered around the shoes store looking for the LEFT!

Well, people who go to Payless have other more serious issues to deal with than being exposed other peoples' stanky, nasty foot fungi.

Maybe no one understands how to use it without buttons to press and maybe a laser of some sort to take the actual measurement.

No, it's just that people who shop at Payless aren't particularly bright.

I messed my feet up for a while by wearing a pair of shoes I bought at Payless.  I think I was mesmerized by the $12 price tag, and didn't think about the ramifications of "man-made uppers".  So, if you ever buy shoes there, make sure they're not some synthetic crap.

Cry Her FAVORITE store...(pray for me). She likes comfort shoes/tennis shoes - with steel toe, when she can find 'em. Why do you think I know about those f'n 'foot sizers' (besides remembering them from youth)...you wouldn't believe what I've done with other customers and them - I'm NOT allowed to go in Payless with MissyD, anymore.

That's like those $10 "running shoes" they sell at Walmart with the synthetic "man-made uppers".

They are horrible for your feet because the material doesn't "breathe" like genuine leather does. They make your feet sweat & they begin to stink horribly after short time.

I have a pair I use to do yard work in, then rinse them out with the hose & let em sit in the sun for a day or two.

I can't wear cheap shoes being on my feet all day, I've tried. These( don't mind the kitten) were a little over $100 and all man-made uppers....... Gortex, I think.

...and I was speaking about the wife. I can 100% sympathize with you, Tizzer. MOST of my shoes (and that is only a few pair) were purchased between 5-10 years ago - for $100 or better, for the very reason you justified. To this very day, I take them to carpenters and get them resoled and repaired.
I've been called cheap.
I have a preference for:
1.) RocSports
2.) Florsheim
3.) New Balance

...also got some duck boots and steel-toe construction abusers, some Military-Issued 'Deep Jungle Boots' (if you are alone in deep water and cannot swim, NO PROBLEM! THEY are buoyant!- when you drown, your body will be found as they will float, no matter what)

They were OK at first, but my feet gradually got worse and worse (before I was finally able to link the problem to the shoes).  By the end of the day, I couldn't even walk.  Had to wear sandals to work for awhile until my feet got back to normal.  The worst part was having to wear sandals with black sox.  What a dork.

What ever became of that kitten anyway?

I remember you posted that pic back when you first took her in.

She's got beautiful coloring.
