I always assumed it was about Pleasant Valley, California.

Seems more like a suburban Southern California-type atmosphere than a NJ type atmosphere.

On another note (& back to the OP).... Jones died in a small town down here in Fla. called "Indiantown".

I had heard of it before, because many years ago, somebody from there won a huge lottery prize.

I was so shocked when I heard about this. I then went over to YouTube and pulled up a video of Davy singing "Girl" on "The Brady Bunch..." then I started to read the comments pouring in from the other users after they heard the news, and how he touched so many people's lives... I just lost it. Was blubbering like a baby. Very sad indeed.

When I was little, that Brady Bunch scene was the first time I had heard of him, I didn't know about the other Monkees until I saw Mike Nesmith's show "Elephant Parts" in '82 I think, I enjoyed it. Then in '86 for the Monkees 20th anniversary, I saw their show for the first time on MTV, and that's when I became a true fan. I dusted off my mom's old Monkees records and would play them for days and days. My best friend (a girl but not really a girlfriend) and I would watch the show and we'd sing and mimic them and laugh all day.

Then in 1996 I heard they were reuniting (minus Mike) for a 30th anniversary tour and they announced a show in a nearby major city and I immediately bought tickets for me and mom. Then I heard they announced another show in my hometown, that would take place 2 nights later from the show I just paid for, so you know I had to go to that show too! I scored four front row center tickets for me, mom, my best friend, and her mom. And we went and started laughing and clowning around like we used to, we even stood up at one point when Peter was talking to the audience and we yelled "We're not worthy! We're not worthy!" They got a kick out of that. We had a ball. Just thought I'd share that with you.

RIP Davy, and thanks for the memories. Cry

Such a sin I really like a lot of the monkees music. I especially like the guitars on their song Valleri. I also liked watching reruns of The Monkees when I was a kid. Requiescat in pace, Davy.

I love this clip.  It really shows the real Davy Jones.

There is much debate as to what they say in the studio chatter before the song Daydream Believer.

Chip: 7A

Davy: What number is this Chip?

The Monkees - Davy: Seven - A

Davy: Ok, you know what I mean like don't get excited man. It's cause I'm short I know.

Some say that Davy says, It's because I'm sure I know, but at 5'3" I know that he was saying short, not sure.

LOL Yeah they were always making "Davy's short" jokes on the show. "Stand up and show us how tall you are, Davy."  Davy: "I am standing up!"

With his somewhat cockney accent, he doesn't pronounce the t or the r.  Sho'

Funny that I remember when I was a kid that people on TV would always be saying to someone, Hey what's your bag?  Meaning, What's your occupation, or what are you in to?  I think it's funny that Davy hadn't heard that expression yet.

The old guy was trying to be so cool with the young guy and the young guy had never heard the expression.  Embarrassed

"What are you into?" is another expression that came out around that time.  It's one of the few hip expressions that's lasted.

I always liked the song Mary, Mary.  I think it's because of the instrumental break (like at 31 seconds).  I was always a sucker for those.

Do you remember the early 90's rap song that "borrowed" the tag line from that song?

"Mary Mary, why ya buggin?

Mary Mary, I need ya huggin."

Or some such crap.

I think it was by one of the various "MC's" of that era.

Thanks for reminding me.  UnhappyPinch

Odd choice, though.  I'm surprised a rapper had ever even heard the song.  Same with the Turtles song that one rap song sampled.  I forget which song that was.

The rappers were "Run-DMC," who for some reason are in the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. Ermm

This one was really a jolt to me, that's all I can say about it. Between the music and the show, I've always been a part of their cult following.
