Is it just me, but what's with the current trend/obsession with Alaska ? There are at least 30 shows on the air about it or they make references to it.
It's kind of like the trend with Bacon becoming popular out of the blue. |

I don't know but do know I want to see something educational on Alaska like a review of its history or wildlife. Something that would air on TLC before it became Realityland™. I have zero interest in reality shows in Alaska. Unless its something like Mythbusters or What Could Go Wrong?

One good thing about TV-you could always turn it off

Actually I think it started several years ago when a certain former dingbat governor and her trashy family came onto the national scene. Maybe people were curious about what kind of state would elect such an idiot.

Yeah, I just saw a commercial boasting about how great, fun, and wonderful Alaska is. Alaska, which is full of extremely freezing weather, and lots of snowstorms. Oh yeah, lots of fun....

I know a few people who have visited Alaska, and rave about how beautiful it is. For those of us who LIKE the cold, it's the place to be, I guess, although it's been colder where I am than it has been in AK these past few weeks..I've always wanted to visit there, and this is from way before SP was ever heard of. The other place I've always wanted to visit is Australia. As it stands, I have very little chance of seeing either place...

Ice Road Truckers may have got this trend going. I occasionally watch Alaska State Troopers when I'm bored.

I have been to Alaska before. I don't go to meet the supposed 'real' reality TV stars. Being a railfan, I have only came to see and ride the White Pass and Yukon Route, and to view the Alaska Railroad (and no, 'Railroad Alaska' didn't provoke me, I already had known of the ARR before the show), since I wanted to see the only Class 1 in Alaska.

Seems to be a current trend to push different states. Just saw two commercials boasting about California and Missouri. I could kind of understand pushing California, as it is one of the most famous world known states, but hole in the wall Missouri? No, just no.

"New York Open for Business" is an ad that plays often on the cable news channels. "Pay no taxes for ten years", but there are restrictions in the fine print. Governor Cuomo has been criticized for spending $140. million on the campaign.

With today's current society, they are the ultimate sheeple. They will follow or do anything a so called higher authority tells them is cool, hip, trendy or will get you 72 virgins when you croak. So over the years different locales and trends become in vogue. Hence you get idiots that want to join ISIS in spite of treating women like garbage and beheading people and putting kids into slavery, follow trash such as the Kardashians and Kanye, become smelly hipsters etc.
It wasn't too long ago the "it places" for commercials and trendiness were:
Australia
Seattle
Denver
Austin, TX
Orlando for all the Wally World attractions
Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY
Years ago there was an Alaska show called Northern Exposure with moose not just moose knuckle. Of course there were hottie actresses for the moos knuckle/cameltoe.

Maybe it depends what they're pushing---vacation or a place to live. You'd get a helluva lot more for your money in Missouri than in California. And San Francisco? Forget it. What $1 million might get you in San Francisco: What a million will get you in Jefferson City, Missouri: |

^ It'd have to be a lot more than the amounts of $ stated to get me to move to Alaska. |

If I could buy alaska, I would charge people to live in my great escape. I'm a hermit by nature.. Nevermind. It's too f'n cold.. Unless I could find me a nice, warm cave to live in..

I've seen Buying Alaska quite a few times, some impressive properties but I can't get past not having a toilet in the house, storing water. We could get way out in the boondocks here and still have running water on half the money. |
