So!

I'm learning CSS and I'm working on a redesign of the site,
to make it more functional, and better-looking.

One of the first things I've done is add a box
right on the front page that displays the latest posts on the Forums.

I'm also putting the Google search front and center.

I don't know about you, but my home page is Google,
and the only thing on the page is a Google search!

With the new CIH design,
your homepage can be http://www.commercialsihate.com,
and you'll have a google search AND the latest posts on the Forums.

I'm also working on a feature where YOUR ad reviews will be featured on commercialsihate.com
as a Featured Review from the Forums.
I used to to this "back in the day" as "Post of the Week!"

Also, after each of my reviews,
I'm going to try and have a display of the most recent comments of that review.

You can preview the new design (most links not functional) here.

Please let me know what you think!

Nathan, looks great...

By the way, if you join Google, you can have page that allows you to add content like Yahoo.

It looks nice, Nathan.  Some questions/comments:

Can't the "Proofreading in an hour" ad go at the very bottom of the page, below the content?

Also, considering the placement of that ad where it is now, I think the four boxes above it kinda look like ad links.

Just my two cents.

Good stuff, I also have google as a homepage.
This may work out for me.

I'm not sure if I am the only one, but posting takes a looong time to go through once I hit post reply.  I find that it stalls so long that I need to resubmit it.  I use FIREFOX
was feeling nostalgic

Looks great Nathan!

The only thing that I am going to comment on is; On my monitor, I have to scroll down a bit to see the form feeds.  I only get the first line or two.  If there was a way to pull that just a tad higher, that would be sweet.  It's no big deal though.  I would still use this one of my home pages.

I use Google and the National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center (I never stop working, I am kind of mentally whacked that way).

Ohhhhh I remember "Post of the Week" - that was hilarious! It got the creative juices flowing!  Thanks for bringing it back!

Hi Nathan.  Good work!

Two comments:
  • The spacing in the "latest comments on this rant" section looks wide, consider making it tighter as it is for the "latest posts on the forum" section.
  • I'd support it if you made a rule that we are not allowed to 'hate any of the ads presented on your main page.  They should have immunity.  It's the right thing to do. Approve

Nathan, it looks great!

I have a suggestion:  beneath the search bar, the default option is set for the Web.  When I use the search bar, it's always for something within this site.  Would you consider changing the default?

I don't want to replace the main site until my legal work is finished.

In the meantime, you can go to
http://www.commercialsihate.com/newcih
and start trying out the new site.

Please let me know if you find any bugs or things I should fix!

Thanks!

I agree. Here:

<input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value="" checked="checked"></input>
<font size="-1" color="#ffffff">Web</font>
</td>
<td>
<input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value="forums.commercialsihate.com"></input>
<font size="-1" color="#ffffff">forums.commercialsihate.com</font>

Should be:

<input type="radio" name="sitesearch" value=""></input>
<font size="-1" color="#ffffff">Web</font>
</td>
<td>
<input type="radio" checked="checked" name="sitesearch" value="forums.commercialsihate.com"></input>
<font size="-1" color="#ffffff">forums.commercialsihate.com</font>

if you'd like to do that (if you didn't know -- It's hard to tell what you know; you show technical prowess one moment, then you're clueless the next D: ).
