With all the recalls, lawsuits and appearances before congress.
I guess we all need cars, the guy uptown told me I needed new rotors, not from wear, but from rust. 07 Silverado 48K miles. Happy times to all GM owners.

Only 48K? And first rotors replacement? Sweet. My Honda is over 20 years old but just topped 100K; I've had to replace two timing belts, also from age and not because they snapped. Wouldn't drive it across country again though, as I did a few times a few years back. Too many deer and crazies on the roads now. I used to find Kid Rock obnoxious, but he's grown on me for some reason. Maybe it's his sense of humor and genuine personality. Wouldn't buy his albums though. Another good ole Detroit boy like Bob Seger so their ads make sense. (Although I did get incredibly sick of hearing "Like A Rock" for Chevy, that's for sure) |

I like Kid Rock's voice. I'm totally sick of this commercial, though. It plays constantly here.

Kid Rock is a fantastic entertainer, and his voice is great, but not on this commercial. I suspect they wanted him to channel Bob Seger's "Like A Rock," instead of singing in his own style. To me it sounds forced. I don't like it.

"Kid Rock" is forced! He's a complete wannabe. This is another chapter in his sell out career. He may have a scraping of talent, but he lives in a time where true rock music is gone, and his scraping of talent has been cast over every worthless genre available in the current world of music entertainment. If he worked in my profession, he'd be a fry cook at Friendly's! |

Jimmy, I get quite a kick from your no-holds-barred review on Kid Rock. I'm going to have to give the Kid a pass here though for a couple of reasons: You're right, he isn't the most gifted musician in the world, but he has made quite the lengthy career out of the genre-hopping you make note of. And in fact, I think he has done remarkably well to have sustained a career in music by realizing his own limitations and that is a must for any performer. He moved away from the white-boy rap he did earlier (thank God) and seems to have found a niche in the gruff country-rock style he works in now. I give him credit for that, and suspect he would be among the first to tell you that he is primarily an entertainer, and not so much a singer per se. His blue-collar nature and sense of humor make him okay in my book as opposed to a lot of big-time "artistes" whose self-aggrandizing polemics and attitudes don't jibe with their just as limited talents. I also would say that as a musician myself (when not working days for THE MAN, when I can that is) "selling out" is not at all as it was some years ago. The music industry has drastically changed, and in order to make a living now, we can't rely on sales of CDs, albums, etc. and must market and sell our music in various ways that we might not have considered before. So I have to give more leeway to musicians who allow their music to be co-opted in order to prosper and survive. This would be why so often, more than ever before, we hear popular music used in TV, movies, and yes, commercial advertising. Within reason of course- selling out for something that you don't morally approve of, or would never actually endorse may go beyond the pale and might indeed be labeled selling out. But since Kid Rock is a Detroit native, and as we know, the auto industry has always been centered there, I don't find his shilling for the auto industry (for some very pretty shillings at that..) to be out of bounds. I have to admit I do enjoy your take on how your industry- which if I am correct is culinary- might find the Kid to be a fry cook at best. I bet even he would have a chuckle at that. |

All of the narration for Chevrolet has been done by a gravelly voiced young actor, Dylan Bruno, even this one. I like him.
Only the song, Born Free, is done by Kid Rock in this commercial. I detest Kid Rock. I think his talent is highly over-rated and every time I see him I feel like I need to take a shower because he is so scummy and sh*tty in his personal and professional lives. Years ago when I found out Sheryl Crow dated him, I lost all respect for her, and previously I thought she was great. |

And if Kid Rock wasn't scummy enough, along came Lance Armstrong. |

Well, I'd hate him too for playing at the democratic convention, but that's only because I think he sucks. |

God, if I dismissed music artists based on their politics, I'd have to discard most of my music collection. I'd be left with Johnny Ramone, and I don't think he put out anything solo. |

Kid Rock is one of those "stars" whose rise to fame cannot be explained. God he sucks soooooo much ass (which might be the explanation for his celebrity status: plenty o' ass suckin').
