Casual Male Big & Tall

That said, I do understand the ad. When you are my size, finding clothing to actually fit, is.....very difficult. You feel badly enough because you're that big in the first place, and you know assholes who don't understand, are going to name call and make fun. I remember this one guy who made fun of me and called me lazy.....after I busted his f**king nose and he was unable to get away from me, because this "lazy" son of a bitch was faster than his skinny ass, he wasn't running his mouth so much. Sorry, but it pisses me off when someone makes fun of ALL fat people and throws us all in the same box. Sure there are these people who sit around a munch on candy bars, cookies and chips all day long and never do a f**king thing, but that wasn't me.

 

After having a few kids, and not being able to get out and be active and do the things I wanted to do, and due to certain events and jobs, I gained weight like crazy. I certainly didn't mean to, nor did I realize how much I had gained and how quickly I had gained it. I decided to do something about it, so I started walking three miles a day. Had to stop because I had not been active like that in a long time. I wound up breaking my foot. It was too much, to soon. I went on diets, and I failed. I could not buy diet food and keep it in the house with kids who wanted to gobble up all my diet food. They went through my apples, oranges,  grapes, veggies, which they need I understand that. But when you have 5 kids, and they all want an apple at the same time, sh*t!!!!! I mean if they see you with one, they're like, "I want one!!??!!" Was I to tell them, "No! you can't have a healthy, good-for-you snack. Go eat some cookies and leave my stuff alone!!"

 

Anyway, I guess the last straw was when I fell on Christmas day 2004 and twisted my leg. I got one of those Joe Theisman leg breaks!! LOL Yep, lot's of pain, surgery, and being heavy made it all together more difficult to lose weight. Just walking was a chore then. I just had surgery a while back and I've lost 151 lbs. over 9 months and it was the best decision I have ever made.

 

If you are heavy, and feel hopeless, surgery can help. It's NOt easy, nor is it an easy decision to make. It is not a magic, fix all bullet , but it can also be dangerous. So do your research.

 

I can understand the frustration of not being able to see because of a tall person, but they can't help being tall no more than you can help being short. LOL. These venues like movies theaters and airplanes should make allowances to serve the public and realize that EVERYONE IS NOT THE SAME!!! There are short, tall, big and small people and we should all be treated like we matter to the folks who want our damn money!!!

The big nightmare is pants. Thank God for K-Mart & their Big & Tall dept. But even then, you have a very small selection to choose from. Wal Mart doesn't have squat.

 

Even shoes are hard to find. Used to wear an 11½, but over size 11 they rarely make half sizes so I went with a 12. Now I've gotten to where I need a size 13. Doable, but limited selection as usual.

 

The problem with those Big & Tall stores is that a.) most of the crap they sell you wouldn't want to wear, b.) most of it is either for extremely obese guys or guys as tall as Shaquille O'neal, & c.) the prices are outrageously expensive. Want a pair of ugly, unstylish pants that sort of fit you? That'll be $60 - $70.

 

Screw that.

 

And then there's everything else in the world that's designed for people of "average" height. Shower heads mounted so low on the wall of the shower that I have to bend over to wet & rinse my hair, restaurant booths with that damned steel pole in the center underneath that I've smacked the livin beJesus out of my kneecaps on more than a couple of times, & forget about being comfortable in a movie theater or sports arena.  Oh, & then there's that little matter of cars. I can't just go out & get myself a nice little Toyota Corolla or some other relatively inexpensive economy car. Why? Because getting in & out is a nightmare & once I'm inside, even with the seat shoved all the way back, I still have to sit with my knees spread apart & my feet turned sideways at the ankles just to operate the pedals.

 

Yeah, we big & tall folks just have it sooooooo easy what with all the women flocking to us & hanging off of us like cats on a fish vendor.

I understand the whole "sort of fit" thing.  When I weighed more, and required a bigger pant size, the pants that fit the waist never seemed to fit anywhere else.  When your waist is bigger than your hips and butt, even belts barely helped.  Imagine a belt on an upside-down triangle.

 

Now that I'm a 33 or 34 waist, pants that are my size, actually stay up.

 

 

As far as height, I've never had a problem being 5'8".  While I understand that height on a man will gain him more respect, I dunno---I just never really cared that much about being tall.  Growing up, I never even thought that maybe I wasn't tall enough. 

 

And, certainly, airplane seating is more comfortable at my height.  And it's not even comfortable for me, so I can imagine how a tall person would feel!

 

 

That's funny, because I am 5'7" and have the shortest legs.  I have to wear "petite" length pants, even though I'm relatively "tall".  I have a crazy, long torso, though, so most female tops become navel-revealing on me.  I have to buy super long tops, just to cover up!  And I have to order swimsuits special.  I won't even *start* on swimsuits!

 

Gosh, I never thought about how ironic that is.  Yes, I have to order special "long torso" swimsuits from catalogs.

 

Clothing has been a very odd issue for me. I'm within the range of a male's average height 5'5"-5'8", but I'm petite, even when I was overweight. Unless I'm buying a fancy high-end designer, men's smalls tend to be too big. When a small does fit, it doesn't fit over my wide hips. Yes, wide hips. Those make pants hunting a bigger issue.

 

In the end, I pretty much gave up on men's clothes and most of my wardrobe is women's. I do buy men's when I find something that fits well, but honestly, I'd rather be comfortable and look good in Donna Karen, than feel terrible and look terrible in Calvin Klein (Terrible example since both design clothing for both genders, but I think you get what I mean XD)
