Stacy's mom is so cool because she's got a Cadillac SRX... Thumbs Down

For those who are wondering, the context of the song is a couple of high school guys going gaga over their friend Stacy's mom. It was a fairly big hit about 10 years ago, though I have absolutely no idea why. Maybe the fact that you can't get it out of your head has something to do with it.

I don't think the song's too bad.  I thought it was The Cars at first.

ConfusedAlarms went off all over when I watched that. Stacy's mom knows how to take advantage of the divorce process.

The band (Fountains of Wayne) used to be pretty damn good before this song was released. Now it's all they're known for, and it isn't a very good song.

I knew it was a matter of time before it was used in a car commercial with a mom involved.

I guess my gripe is with the music in the other Caddy commercials, and to a degree on this one. When did Cadillac decide to target the "punk rock-hip" buyer? I really don't think that kid down the street with the spiked hair, piercings and tattoos all over his face and body is seriously considering buying a Cadillac any time soon.
Let's face it. Some things never change. Doctors and lawyers are the only ones who can afford to drive Buicks and Cadillacs. Or for that matter, for the most part, even desire to.

Maybe they are after the Hip Hop/Rap "artists". Unfortunately they will be shot dead or overdose before they make their second payment.

I think that since the whole point of this commercial is that it's a hot mom, they could have at least made the woman look attractive.
She has a decently attractive face but her hairdo is something an unattractive older woman would have and the clothes are not sexy whatsoever.
Being an aspiring actress in Hollywood, I'd be willing to bet she has a hot body, but for some reason they decided to cover everything up in an unflattering outfit.
I wouldn't notice this lady in a small crowd, and that's hardly a chick to put in a 'hot mom' ad.

^ She is not that attractive and neither is the car. They had to have the car looking better than the woman. Then ,of course, the fumbling fathers going ga ga over the power lift gate. Just plain dumb.
I can't complain but sometimes I still do.

This is a commercial that I neither hate nor love. It does nothing for me. Good point: at least it's the original music and not some drugged out remake.

Now, if you really want a Cadillac Commercial to Hate take a look at this one from  Their Making Whoopie campaign.

I approve this message.

When I finally saw this stupid commercial I said "yeah right". BTW that 1998 commercial I remember like it was yesterday! I can't believe that was 15 years ago!
One good thing about TV-you could always turn it off

Ya Stacie's mom in this commercial is definitely not hot. Use a hot mom like that woman from Grounded for life or Jeniffer Coolidge, hot moms indeed. MILFY! Big smile

The first couple of times that you see this commercial you think....hmmmm, she is hot. Then after seeing the commercial some more, you realize that she is not.
I see hotter Moms at the bus stop in the morning. Every morning. This one has a serious beak...and looks like she is hiding a few pounds under that coat!

She's OK.  With the short hair and business-y clothes, though, she's just sorta typical.  Not bad, but not someone you'd write a song about.

Same with the car.  It's probably a fine vehicle, but there's a lotta cars out there that look like that.  It's not really a head-turner.  Plus, it's silver with a black interior.  Can't get enough of that, can we?

Now, here's a Cadillac that actually might turn some heads:

That's because this ad is targeted at those frumpy office moms. They are the ones who latched on to Stacy's Mom and ran it into the ground. Oh remember when there was that song about the young boys going for the hot mom over the young daughter? You cougar you. Relive your glory days in a Caddy.

Except Caddys will always be for rich rappers and old white farts. Please stop trying to branch out.
It's ok, I'm in marketing!

Now, I'm reminded of Van Halen's Hot for Teacher video.

If I remember correctly, it was far more risque than that. The boy in the video was only 12-13 and it included a scene which, not to subtlely suggested he was masturbating while watching Stacy's Mom in the pool, until Stacy (who is also 12-13) comes in and catches him.  That part of the video was so controversial it was cut from most of the TV airplay making the video seem a bit more innocent.

I wonder if Cadillac really wants middle aged women to buy their cars for the purpose of making their junior high daughters male classmates spank it over them....

(Here is the uncensored version, judge for yourself...)

^^ I watched the video, and when I read your description of it beforehand, it was exactly what I thought it was gonna be - a rip off from the Phoebe Cates red bikini scene in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

This one's obviously edited since it's on youtube, but the unedited is out there and easy to find if you wanna see her goods.

I think I now know where the inspiration for "Where's Waldo" came from.....

The intro was obviously lifted directly from Just What I Needed.

That might've been purposeful.  Same reason I was reminded of Hot for Teacher, perhaps.

From Wiki (re Stacy's Mom):

The music video, directed by Chris Applebaum, pays homage to the 1982 movie Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The video features several comedic scenes illustrating the boy's attempts to get closer to Stacy's mother, the object of his affections and fantasies. There is a scene which shows Stacy wearing red heart-shaped sunglasses, which are very similar to the ones on the promotional picture for the 1962 film Lolita. There is also a nod to Van Halen's "Hot for Teacher" video.

Horrible song, horrible band.

This has been getting a lot more airtime lately, and it hurts.
