I can't and don't want to believe this as I loved her.

But man, what a wonderful life she had. I wish she made it to 100.

God bless you, Betty.

Me too.

Just another three weeks and she would have.

Born on January 17, 1922.

Wow, born exactly 11 mos before my father, who died in 01.

Because I think about death, I had just been thinking of her, and how she was the only one of the Golden Girls left, and how lonely that might feel.

Or to the new year.

I guess you could say she dropped before the ball did.

I'm sure social media will be abound with corny, sappy memes about The Golden Girls together in Heaven lickety split.

Two shakes of a lamb's tail.

A New York minute.

Probably already been done during the time I've been writing all these worn out old euphemisms for things happening really quickly.

Who knows if they even got along in real life?

That's just a rhetorical question; I don't really care.

No reason to think they didn't.

Unless there's a tabloid story or two floating around out there somewhere.

Besides, once we get to Heaven, all our Earthly quarrels and concerns are supposed to be things of the past.

Assuming one believes in that particular view of an afterlife, etc., etc.

Well, I said the memes of them in Heaven together wouldn't take long to begin appearing on social media....

Did I call it or what?

Somebody must have made this awhile ago and saved it for today.

Sad to hear about Betty's passing, she was such a great woman.

It seems like there were several deaths these last few days, John Madden, Harry Reid, and now Betty to finish the year off.

At least she's back with Allan Ludden. May she R.I.P.

I was hoping she'd make it into the 100 club, too (99.95% doesn't count.) It would be funny if it was found out she lied about her age and that she was actually older.  I guess this messes up the TV special they were going to have for her...

Usually when people over the ago of 70 die, "natural causes" or "old age" will suffice.

But when you're 95-100, those explanations don't work. I mean she's been old for 30 years, so why did she suddenly die now? And "natural causes"? Well, yeah...but what would those be?

I guess when someone lives so long, causes of death seem more compelling.

When someone gets that old, death is usually not as "sudden" as it appears to be.

Likely whatever caused her death was an ongoing degradation of one or more internal organs over time until it finally reached a point at which everything just shut down.

Or it could be something as simple as her heart just wore out.

The human body is a complex machine.

We've all been in the process of dying since the moment of birth.

Happened to my Grandmother as I wrote about her death a few weeks ago. She was very frail the last few years and was slowing down over time. She was pretty much bedridden in her last weeks. Basically went peacefully as she just fell asleep and never woke up.

My mom spent the last six months of her life bedridden in a nursing home. Her legs just gave out, then everything else just went downhill.

Thankfully her mind remained mostly intact.

My Grandmother had dementia. We decided to keep her at my Aunt's house and put her into a long-term hospice care so she didn't have to be in a nursing home. We figured it would be better as she had numerous bad falls over the years. We figured if she was in a nursing home, she'd fall very quickly. Plus, she'd have hated being there. It took a village to care for her in her last few years but we all did it and it made us closer. My aunt also never wanted to be in a home and wanted to have one of her sons and his wife take care of her for quite a while.

I made a Facebook Group called "99 Club" after Rev. Ernest Angely kicked the bucket on No Pants Day at the age of 99...he had a WBNX Show called The Ninety and Nine Club...which is about The Parable of The Lost Sheep...hence...The 99 Club...which also includes Mitch Miller, Zsa Zsa Gabor, and Billy Graham...now Betty White joins The 99 Club.

Will her 100th celebrations be cancelled?

I agree. Yeah, it'd be cool if she made it to 100...but why and for who? From what I read, she rarely left her house over the past few years, and rarely had visitors. She spent her time playing solitaire. Does that sound like someone looking forward to turning 100 and/or having a party about it?

I wonder who would win if the members of the 99 Club had a dead celebrity softball game against the members of the 27 Club.

Mitch Miller, Zsa Zsa Gabor, Billy Graham, Betty White, Prince Phillip and Eddie Albert, against Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse.

Though it might seem a mismatch at first glance, it might be more even than it appears.

On one side you'd have a group of geriatrics who are so weak and feeble they'd need walkers or motorized wheelchairs just to get to the plate much less run the bases.

But on the other side you'd have a bunch of drugged out stoners who were either drunk, tripping on acid or nearly catatonic on heroin, so they would be in a comparable state to the 99ers.

At any rate, it would be fun to watch.

I'm guessing it would look something like a Monty Python bit....

I should make that into a sketch...Carl Barks would also be part of the 99ers since he did die at 99.

I could pull-off being Ernest Angely since I did something similar with a commercial I made called "Miracle Water"....
