The Thrill is (indeed) gone.
RIP to Mr. BB King. One of the first and best of the concerts I saw in my teens was BB King, the headliner. The opening act was okay I guess (bored me actually), but the crowd was restless and became even more restless when the opener returned for an encore. Many of the crowd began shouting "We want BB!! We want BB!" and so did we. The opening act was Bob Seger. Say goodnight Lucille. |

Terrible loss of a true musical legend. You will be forever missed but forever remembered BB King.

Really, he wasn't the greatest guitar player around, something that he readily acknowledged, but he just knew how to play the blues with such raw emotion.
Saw a clip of him yesterday, in which he said (paraphrasing) "They call me the "King of the Blues". Do I believe that? Of course I don't. There are a lot of people who can do what I do, and many of them do it better. But they just aren't me." |

Wow! What can be said about this great man which hasn't already been said? I had the absolute pleasure of meeting him several times.
He was a diabetic, so his diet had to cator to that ailment. He enjoyed fried food, but we had to avoid frying his meals, so we breaded his chicken and fish with panko breadcrumbs and baked his entrees. His comments were always very kind and supporting. He told me that he was raised on fried food, but never knew that the flavour could be duplicated by baking. He also loved diced fruit for his desserts. He wasn't allowed to consume alcohol, so he would drink apple juice, which many fans though was beer. He even used to raise a glass and toast his audience, they toasted back (unknowing that he was hoisting back some apple juice instead of a Bud). I also had the pleasure of being invited to stay backstage during a few of his shows. His music was always outstanding! He also genuinely loved his audiences. We lost an angel on Earth when he left us, but I'm sure he'll be looking over us from heaven. R.I.P. Mr. King |

ABC News is reporting that the police are denying that there's any homicide investigation underway.
http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory/bb-king-daughters-allege-closest-aides-poisoned-31294271 I wonder what these two daughters feel there is to be gained by these allegations. Money or publicity or maybe that publicity will lead to money? Maybe they aren't satisfied with the size of his estate. |

Yeah dammit, I noticed a story later that said there was no investigation.

Well the story you posted isn't false in that his two daughters are claiming BB was murdered by his assistant, it's just that the cops aren't taking them seriously. |

I saw the "homicide" story, too. That the assistant kept some kind of drops under lock and key and they want it analyzed. They are going ahead with the autopsy.

Against BB's wishes too, from what I read. Said he didn't want to be all cut up after he died. |

I suppose it's worth looking into, though I read he was well tended to by professional medical personnel. Of course nowadays that might not mean a whole lot either. If there was something fishy going on, I'm sure we'll hear about it. And thanks to tabloid news, we'll hear about it either way. |

I would like to know why B.B.'s children weren't at his bedside, in his home, while he was in hospice care at the age of 89. Sure, have the hospice care nurses and medical personnel do the end-of-life care, but be there with your Dad. I'd like to know if there was some animosity between B.B. and his children and that is why they weren't there; perhaps he didn't want them there. There is a reason he wrote his will in 2007 and appointed someone outside his family as his executor.
I also wonder if B.B. didn't pass away from natural causes on Nature's schedule, if perhaps he got a little help to ease the pain and give him dignity in the inevitable end. Maybe it was his wish. I can't see why his caregiver for 39 years would suddenly want to kill him when he's already in hospice care mode and he already knew he wasn't long for this world. RIP B.B. You were one of the greats! |
