Please don't tell me you're serious.

"Live", to me, means that it's being broadcast live as it's being performed. As such, we can't be seeing previews of it. It's like going to see a band perform live. You can't see that performance in advance of it actually happening.

The film of the broadcast can be replayed, at which point, it's not "live", just a rebroadcast of a live performance.

But what's posted in the preview above is just the characters dressed up and letting us know who they are. It's not really the performance.

Kinda sad you have to explain that.

Banderboy - I agree. Pre-produced promos for live events are done all the time. It doesn't mean that the event itself isn't still live. Back in the day, press photos were more common than any sort of video preview, but now videos are pretty standard.

Plus, the live production has been in rehearsal for a while now - and preview footage from rehearsals are also pretty common. (Most Broadway shows do that online now all the time.)

Anyway...yeah, it's sad to have to really explain all that. One would think it would be obvious.

Next year (if they continue to go live) they can add these songs - you know, to include everyone:

My son will come out, tomorrow

I'm a knocked up wife

Having worked on a few productions of the show, I will say there is one lyric at the end that is very questionable unless everyone is VERY careful about diction. And that is "We're getting a New Deal for Christmas this year." It takes a little effort to get the "L" in "Deal" to sound clear enough - but if you don't work for that, you get "We're getting a nudie for Christmas this year..." :-)

I watched the "Annie" cast on the Thanksgiving parade, and it was so awful. First of all, they autotuned everybody's voices. I don't recall Andrea McArdle in the 70's or Aileen Quinn in the 80's ever needing autotune. OK OK, they didn't have autotune back then, but that's not the point. Back then, people in musicals could actually sing. These songs are extremely hard for kids to sing. I've seen footage of little girls auditioning for the part, and some of them were so stressed out they broke down and cried. Nowadays, any entitled brat can be in these musicals, all they need is autotune. And oh yeah, Harry Connick looks freaking stupid. Screw this stupid ass show. I won't be watching. I know they couldn't care less, but meh, I'm just saying it, so there, nyah. Tongue

No, there was no autotune. Had there been autotune, they would have used it to make sure Connick sounded on pitch on his high notes. He was FLAT! Disapprove

I've done Annie twice, as musical director. No, the music is not that hard for the kids. "Hard Knock Life" is the toughest thing for the girls to sing because of the large range and the insistent high notes, but the rest isn't bad at all. "Tomorrow" just needs to be in a key that is comfortable. (Options are given in the score.) And I didn't think Celina Smith had any problem with that song, musically speaking.

But I will agree that this lipsynched performance (as all of them always are at the Parade) was pretty lackluster. Perhaps they've been coaching Smith not to overplay, as many girls will try to do in this role. But I didn't feel much energy from her - or him. I think she sang "Tomorrow" just fine, but it lacked the joy/reach/need I would hope for. The ensemble was dutifully drilled.

This reminds me a lot of the feel of the "Sound Of Music Live" that started off this whole series back in 2013, with Carrie Underwood. Everyone knew their parts just fine, everyone was well rehearsed. But no one was exciting to watch - it was all very stiff.  This had that same kind of stiffness. Hoping the actual live thing goes better.

No, not really.

All that would result in is them being pitied and held up as "brave heroes" or some sh*t, then multimillion dollar lawsuit settlements would ensue.

No, what I would rather see happen is they all lose their voices right before the broadcast so that they can only speak barely above a whisper, with ever singing again being out of the question.

Once she's rich & famous, she'll have 20 mothers show up...

Poor little Annie. What a whiner. Hey, I'm an orphan, too!
