I was off work a few days this week and stopped my "honeydew" chores long enough to grab a sandwich and watch some TV...think it was mid afternoon. Watched a couple minutes of a Sopranos rerun and thought at first there was something wrong with the TV. Image seemed sort of jerky. I checked a couple other channels, no problem there.
Finally realized it looked like when my DVD player is on its slowest fast forward speed. I suspect A&E is digitally speeding up the program just slightly, but enough to make the motion jerky, so they can fit in MORE COMMERCIALS.
I'm not surprised that they do this, but when they do it to the extent that it degrades the program quality, it's just a bit much.

Stations often 'speed up' syndicated shows in order to fit in another commercial or two. Or cut out a scene here or there for the same reason. Usually they'll do both....
